Pratapgad Fort holds great significance in the history of the Marathas. The construction of this hill fort was ordered by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to keep guard over the Konya valley nearby. Today, it is one of the most visited tourist destinations around Mahabaleshwar.
The fort stands at a height of over 3500 ft above sea level, and offers unparalleled, panoramic views of the Konkan coast. Near the fort are two other popular Mahabaleshwar tourist destinations, Bhavani Temple and Afzal Khan’s tomb, which are also very important in Maratha history.
